Hello and welcome to The Baking Tin! Thanks for stopping by… here’s a page with more information about me in case you are interested…
So, who am I?
Hi, I’m Helen and I’m an English girl living in Amsterdam. I love to bake, create and cook! I’m a vegetarian and have been for as long as I can remember! Incase you haven’t noticed my favourite place is in my kitchen trying out different recipes. Alongside spending time in the kitchen, I love to be creative, I love to explore and travel, I love spending time with my family, friends and our ginger kitten Jan. I love to eat and visit restaurants and to offset this I’ve also recently started to run…
Why do I blog?
The Baking Tin is my own little project. I have always like to cook and I am constantly trying new recipes but, unfortunately, I never saved them anywhere and as a result lost track of all the beautiful food I’d made! I knew I had to keep a record of what I was up to but … I never actually did anything. Too much work and not enough fun!
This blog initially started in February 2015 but three posts in life took-over and the blog stood still for 6months. In April, I decided to do something I love, find more fun and continue with the blog and my baking! With some drama, some nerves and a fair bit of excitement I quit my job and finished in August, and since then the blog has been re-named, re-started and The Baking Tin born!
In addition to cake commissions I’ve recently had a stall confirmed at the Sunday Market at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam… I guess you could say my hobby is becoming more and more serious! If you are in Amsterdam pop by, say hello and try one of the many cakes I’ll have on the stand one time!
I live in Amsterdam and would like to commission a cake…
Cake orders aren’t something I’m actively advertising but please get in touch and I’d be happy to see if I can help! (see “Order” page for details on how to contact me.)
I’m visiting Amsterdam – can you tell me where to go?
I could tell you a bucket full of places to go but, honestly, I’m not the best to share tourist guides except the usual red light district, Anne Frank Huis and Vondelpark. Amsterdam is a mix of scenes, flavours and fun. For ideas, try Awesome Amsterdam as a good start. For places to eat and drink, one of my favourite blogs is Your Little Black Book, here you will find plenty of places for all tastes if you are tired and need to regain some energy from all that peddle pushing and pavement pounding!
Cups or Grams?
The recipes are designed for ease and are written in a way which makes sense to me. Although I’ve lived in Canada and Amsterdam and do have a fancy set of American cups, I’m an English Girl at heart and therefore prefer to cook using grams! If you need a conversion this website is pretty good!
I hope you enjoy my site and cooking, for any questions be sure to get in touch!
Love, Helen x
